What Is a Timeshare Point System?
A timeshare point system is vacation-ownership currency: you buy (or inherit) a contract that awards an annual allocation of points or credits, then spend that allocation on the club’s reservation chart by resort, season, and unit size. Programs on this site: DVC (DVC Points), Wyndham (Club Wyndham Points), Marriott VC (Vacation Club Points), Hilton GV (HGV Points), Diamond (Diamond Points), Bluegreen (Bluegreen Points), Westgate (Westgate Points), WorldMark (WorldMark Credits), Vistana (StarOptions). The allocation resets on your use year. Unused points typically expire unless you bank, borrow, book, or monetize them. This page is the definition. Per-brand rental rates live on the point-values index — we are not retargeting that table.
The three pieces every program uses
- An annual allocation — points, credits, or StarOptions credited at the start of your use year.
- A reservation chart — nights priced by resort, season, and unit. The chart lives in the owner portal; we do not republish brand booking grids.
- A use-year clock — unused currency expires unless you bank, borrow, book, or sell that year’s allocation.
That is the system. What a year of points rents for is a different question — answered on how much are timeshare points worth and the live /point-values index. This page does not replace that index.

What is a timeshare point system?
It is the modern way most U.S. vacation-ownership clubs meter usage. Instead of a fixed week at one resort, you receive a yearly point (or credit) budget and book against a published chart. You still own a deed or right-to-use interest and you still pay annual maintenance.
How do timeshare points work?
Each use year you receive an allocation. A peak week at a flagship resort costs more of that allocation than a shoulder week at a mid-tier resort. Booking windows, banking, and borrowing are set by the program — those rules are already on each brand file.
Are timeshare points the same as hotel loyalty points?
No. Club points are tied to a contract and maintenance fees. Wyndham Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy, and Hilton Honors are free hotel-loyalty currencies. See the loyalty-mix-up answer. Conversion exists at poor rates on some files and is a last resort for expiring points.
Where are the 2026 per-point rates?
On /point-values and the how-much-are-timeshare-points-worth answer. This page does not republish that table and does not replace the index.
